ABOUT THE AUSTRALIA-JAPAN YOUTH DIALOGUE

The Australia-Japan Youth Dialogue (AJYD) seeks to be the premier initiative for the promotion of young leaders and ideas that will strengthen and support the future of the Australia-Japan relationship.

The AJYD aims to be representative by prioritising diversity in all forms: gender, sector, location, and voice. We have alumni working across a variety of industries in both Australia and Japan, and promote visibility and engagement on both sides. We work hard to publicise our work and champion the relationship, building the AJYD voice and brand.

Our primary goal is to bring together young people from Australia and Japan, to learn from key leaders in the relationship, generate new ideas, and build valuable person-to-person relationships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conceptualise and plan ideas to bring together the next generation of leaders from Australia and Japan
• Build and maintain networks with key individuals and organisations in the Australia-Japan relationship, including attendance at networking events
• Attend monthly meetings with the wider AJYD team
• Manage relationships and attend key networking events as an AJYD representative
• Maintain line of communication with sub-team and wider AJYD committee, including regular checking of team communication channels

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrated understanding of the key issues within the Australia-Japan relationship
• Good emotional intelligence, and confidence when meeting new people
• Ability to work independently, efficiently and effectively remotely

DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Passion for impact, especially in Australia-Japan domain, and alignment with AJYD’s mission, vision and values
• Willingness to learn / prior understanding of the Australia Japan Youth Dialogue story
• Competency using Google suite (Slides, Docs, Sheets), and familiarity with using Slack
• Possession of an established and broad network of contacts within the Australia-Japan space
• Ability to speak, read and write Japanese (JLPT N2 and above, plus experience using Business Japanese highly desirable)
