The inaugural Australia-Japan Youth Dialogue took place in Melbourne between 26 and 29 July 2017. The second AJYD took place in Tokyo from 13-16 November 2019. The AJYD alumni group is steadily growing year on year, forming a strong and enduring network between the next generation of leaders from Australia and Japan, and filling an important gap between our two countries.

As liberal democracies in the Asia-Pacific, Australia and Japan share a range of interests and values. Both countries must tackle the strategic challenges that loom in the region and around the world, while making the most of a range of historic opportunities. Fostering meaningful cooperation, collaboration and mutual understanding between Australia and Japan over the coming years will be important if both countries are to contribute to peace, security and stability in our region, as well as continue to realise the many economic, social and cultural benefits borne of our bilateral relationship.
